Founded in 1983, UMAR’s mission is to promote
community inclusion, independence and growth for adults with intellectual
and developmental disabilities through residential, employment and
cultural enrichment opportunities.

Developmental Disability
(DD) is a severe, chronic disability that is manifested before
the age of 22 which significantly limits intellectual
functioning and adaptive behavior. |
UMAR currently operates 24 group homes and

apartments all across Western North Carolina. |

family and home for your loved one with a developmental or
associated disability, you want to feel at ease that you have made
the right decision. |
UMAR's program
services include group supported employment, an ARTS program, recreation
activities, personal growth goals, advocacy, Developmental Therapies
Services and CAP services (Community Alternatives Program) in a
parent/guardian’s home or the client’s own home. |
